Understanding Creamy Honey
Many guests will ask what makes creamy honey different. Creamy honey contains no cream or dairy. The name refers to its smooth, thick, spreadable texture. Eastside Honey creates creamy honey using a traditional process similar to maintaining a sourdough starter. A starter honey with smooth crystals is mixed into raw honey. As the honey crystallizes, the crystals conform to the smooth crystal structure of the starter, creating a rich and creamy texture. This is considered the traditional gold-standard method of producing true creamy honey.
Honey Education & Bee Facts
-
These conversation starters are excellent for engaging guests:
-
Bees collect nectar, which they convert into honey as their carbohydrate source.
-
Pollen is the primary protein source bees consume.
-
Pollen is also what people are typically allergic to, not honey itself.
-
Honey cannot be labeled organic because beekeepers cannot control every location where bees forage.
-
Raw honey is minimally processed compared to heavily filtered commercial honey.
-
Heat can cause creamy honey to soften or melt.
-
Melted creamy honey is still perfectly good to eat but may be less spreadable.
