ABOUT ST-VIATEUR BAGELS
St-Viateur Bagel is a beloved Montreal institution, founded in 1957, and home to Montreal’s longest-running bagel shop. For more than 60 years, the flagship bakery has welcomed locals and visitors from around the world, becoming a popular stop on Montreal food tours and a celebrated part of the city’s culinary history.
A true family business, St-Viateur is now operated by second-generation owner Joe Morena and his three sons — Vincenzo, Nicolò, and Roberto. They credit the bakery’s success to their loyal and dedicated employees, many of whom have been hand-rolling bagels for over 25 years and are considered an essential part of the bagel-making family.
Like their fathers before them, the Morena brothers grew up in the bakery from their early teens, learning the craft and proudly upholding the traditions passed down through generations. Their commitment ensures that St-Viateur remains a cherished landmark and continues to preserve Montreal’s iconic bagel tradition for years to come.
St-Viateur Bagel has been featured in movies, TV shows, articles, books, blogs, vlogs, and social media, further cementing its reputation as a cultural and culinary icon.

HOW TO SERVE GUESTS
-
Using a bagel slicer (some stores may slice the bagels for you in advance), cut one of each flavor in half.
-
Place the sliced bagels on the toaster oven tray and set the toaster oven to toast.
-
The goal is for the bagels to be warm and lightly toasted — timing will vary by toaster.
-
Begin checking the color at 1½ minutes; do not toast longer than 2½ minutes.
-
Once lightly golden brown and warm, remove the tray from the toaster oven and place it on top.
-
Turn the toaster oven off and allow bagels to cool for 1 minute.
-
Once cooled, place bagels on the cutting board and cut each half into 4 pieces.
-
Place the cut samples back on the tray and return the tray to the off toaster oven to keep warm.
-
Greet each guest as they walk by your table and invite them to sample — use the company name (“Would you like to try St-Viateur Bagels?”).
-
Tell guests the flavors available and ask which one they’d like to start with.
-
Ask if they would like their sample with or without cream cheese.
-
If they want cream cheese, use a plastic butter knife to spread a thin layer on the bagel piece.
-
Place one sample onto a napkin.
-
Set the sample at the front of the demo station for the guest to pick up.
-
Ask the guest for feedback.
-
Encourage them to try additional flavors.
-
If the guest enjoys the product, don’t forget to ask for the sale!
VERIFY END OF DEMO
-
Clean and sanitize the demo station.
-
Have the Foodie sign your Clock-Out Form and text a picture of the form to Karen & Lexi. Save the photo for your demo report.
