DEMO OBJECTIVE

Introduce shoppers to Chakalaka Brands, a bold South African-inspired dish, drive hot sampling and product trial, educate guests on flavor, versatility, and health benefits, and generate in-store sales.

  • Increase in-store sales

Chakalaka is a protein-rich, plant-based dish made with beans, hearty vegetables, and spices. Inspired by Southern African cuisine, it delivers bold flavor with a touch of sweet heat and offers a convenient, healthy, and exciting alternative to traditional side dishes.

All flavors must be displayed and promoted.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • There is NO demo kit for this event.

  • Product must be purchased in-store as directed below.

  • Follow all United Family of Stores guidelines and Four Star food safety policies.

WHAT TO BRING FROM HOME

  • Apron (no logos)

  • Hat or hair covering (no logos)

  • Name badge

  • Floor-length tablecloth

  • Valid Food Handler’s Card

  • Smartphone (for required photos and reporting only)

Dress Code:

  • Long pants or jeans — no holes or tears

  • Collared shirt or sweater/knit top

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • No hoodies, sleeveless shirts, sleeveless tops, headphones, or excessive jewelry

ARRIVAL & STORE CHECK-IN

  1. Check in with the Store Manager or Manager on Duty.

  2. Inform them you are scheduled to demo Chakalaka Brands.

  3. Ask where to set up your demo station.

Product Verification & Purchase (Required)

  1. Retrieve 1 package of Chakalaka Medium from shelf.

  2. Take a selfie in-store and text to Karen & Lexi.

  3. Take product to the Front Service Desk and charge to U Card.

  4. Text photo of receipt to Karen & Lexi.

  5. Save receipt for demo report upload.

DEMO SETUP

  • Cover table fully with tablecloth.

  • Place 2 non-breakable floral arrangements from floral department on table.

  • Display all three flavors clearly (recommend 8 bags per flavor).

  • Display Allergen Sign.

  • Organize cups, gloves, spoons, napkins, and trash neatly.

  • Plug in electric skillet using extension cord.

  • Wash hands and put on gloves.

  • Take photo of completed demo setup with you behind the table.

COOKING PROCEDURE (MEDIUM FLAVOR)

  1. Set skillet to medium-low heat (350°F).

  2. Add TWO packages of Chakalaka Medium.

  3. Pour in TWO 16 oz water bottles (32 oz total).

  4. Stir well.

  5. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Once water is absorbed, switch to keep warm, stirring occasionally.

SAMPLING PROCEDURE

  • Serve samples hot and fresh.

  • Sample size: 1–2 oz.

  • Scoop into portion cups using plastic spoon.

  • Leave spoon in cup for guest.

  • Change gloves every 30 minutes or as needed.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional demo station at all times.

FOOD SAFETY GUIDELINES

  • Wash hands frequently.

  • Always wear gloves when handling food.

  • Never touch sample cups or rims with bare hands.

  • Record date & time when product is removed from refrigeration.

  • Dispose of any opened and unused product at demo end (after purchased).

  • Never remove leftover product from the store.

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

  • Stay friendly, engaged, and attentive.

  • No phone use during sampling.

  • Smartphones are for required photos and reporting only.

CLEANUP & WRAP-UP

  1. Stop sampling early enough to allow proper cleanup.

  2. Dispose of trash properly.

  3. Return unopened display product to shelf.

  4. Clean and sanitize demo area.

Product Close-Out

  • Take all remaining product (except check-in item) to Front Service Desk.

  • Charge to U Card.

  • Text photo of receipt to Karen & Lexi.

  • Save receipt for demo report upload.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete demo report per Four Star / United procedures.

  • Upload required photos:

    • Full demo setup with you behind the table

    • Product display

  • Upload all receipts

  • Do NOT photograph customers.
